Multi-currency budget app for people paid across borders
Bill a client in one currency, pay rent in another, hold savings in a third, and most budgeting apps become immediately wrong. Currency has to be a property of each transaction, not a global setting.
- Per-transaction currency
Record each item in the currency it actually happened in.
- One display currency
Your workspace totals and forecast are shown in a currency you choose.
- Separate ledgers
Pro workspaces let you keep a per-country or per-entity ledger and switch between them.
- Eight interface languages
The app follows your language, not just your currency.
Common cross-border setups
| Situation | Suggested setup |
|---|---|
| Paid in USD, living in EUR | Display in EUR, log invoices in USD on expected payment dates |
| Two countries, two tax regimes | One workspace per country, separate tax set-asides |
| Travelling long-term | Log spending in local currency, display in your home currency |
| Agency with foreign suppliers | Supplier bills in their currency, forecast in yours |
Handling exchange risk sensibly
You cannot forecast an exchange rate, so do not try. Forecast conservatively: assume a rate slightly worse than today's for income you have not received, and slightly worse than today's for foreign costs you have not paid.
The second habit that matters is timing. If a large payment converts on a bad day, that is a one-off loss; if all your income converts on the same day every month, you have concentrated the risk unnecessarily. Splitting conversions across the month averages it out.
What to set up first
- Choose the display currency you actually think in.
- Add fixed costs in the currency they are billed in.
- Log expected client payments in their invoice currency on realistic dates.
- Add a tax set-aside in the currency your tax authority wants.
- Check the projected balance in your display currency for the next ninety days.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a budgeting app that supports multiple currencies?
Yes. Cashflow Calendar records currency per transaction and totals everything in a display currency you choose per workspace.
Can I keep separate ledgers per country?
Yes, using multiple workspaces on Pro, each with its own display currency and categories.
How should I forecast exchange rates?
Do not forecast them. Use a slightly conservative rate for unreceived income and unpaid foreign costs, and split conversions across the month.
Which languages are supported?
Eight: English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Italian, German and Spanish.
